Bluestone pool terrace with a fieldstone retaining wall in Lincoln, MA

Pool terraces that belong to the garden.

A pool terrace has the hardest job in the yard: wet feet, freeze-thaw, chlorine, furniture, and every eye in the garden on it. We build them in full-color bluestone and granite over a base engineered to stay dead flat — coping set true, joints tight, and the whole surround detailed so the pool reads as part of the landscape rather than a hole cut into it.

Coping is where the eye goes

The coping is the one line everyone reads, from the house and from the water. We set it dead level and true to the pool shell, with consistent overhang and joints that hold their spacing all the way around — including the radius, where sloppy work always shows first.

Thermal bluestone and granite give the grip you want underfoot when the deck is wet, and hold their color through years of chlorine, salt systems, and sun.

A deck that stays flat and drains away

Pool decks fail at the edges, where backfill settles and the base was never properly confined. We excavate to depth, compact a structural base in lifts, and pitch the surface so water runs away from the pool and the house — never into the shell or back toward the foundation.

Where grade allows, we tie the terrace into seat walls, steps, and planting beds so the whole surround resolves as one composition instead of a ring of stone.

Built around the pool crew, not against them

Pool projects have a lot of trades. We coordinate with the pool builder, the electrician, and the landscape designer so the terrace goes in at the right moment, over the right backfill, with the right sleeves already run — and nothing gets opened back up later.

Questions

Pool Terraces, answered.

Pool surrounds typically run $40 to $80+ per square foot installed, depending on stone, coping detail, the pool’s shape, and site access. Radius coping and cut work on a freeform pool sit at the higher end.

Thermal-finish bluestone and granite give real grip when wet, which is why we recommend them for surrounds. Lighter stone runs cooler underfoot — we will talk through color and finish for your sun exposure before we commit.

Yes. Re-coping and re-decking an existing pool is a large share of this work. We assess the shell and the existing base first, then give you an honest scope — including whether the base needs to be rebuilt.
