A large share of our Massachusetts work is executing drawings for landscape architects — reading elevations, holding the specified batter and joint, and flagging a conflict before it becomes a change order. Much of it in ongoing collaboration with Jonathan Keep Landscape Design.

Quincy is the Granite City whose quarries and Granite Railway built the Bunker Hill Monument, and its historic districts and harbor wetlands put stonework under real design and conservation review.

We coordinate with the pool builder, the electrician, and the landscape designer — often Jonathan Keep Landscape Design — so the terrace goes in at the right moment over the right backfill, and nothing gets opened back up later.

We buy from New England quarries and yards we have used for years, and we hand-pick rather than take a pallet sight unseen. For Quincy, that usually means matching color and texture to the Federal and Greek Revival captains' houses already on the street.

The coping is the one line everyone reads, from the water and from the house. We set it dead level to the shell with consistent overhang, and choose thermal bluestone or granite for grip underfoot — matched to the Federal and Greek Revival captains' houses, Presidents Hill Victorians, and shingle-style homes out on Squantum and Merrymount of Quincy so the pool reads as part of the garden, not a hole cut into it.

Seat walls, steps, and planting beds get designed into the surround from the start, whether the property sits in Presidents Hill, Wollaston, and Squantum or anywhere else in town.
